Senior Citizens Council of Clackamas County benefit raises $24,500 for senior citizens in need

The Senior Citizens Council of Clackamas County raised $24,500 at its annual fundraiser held Saturday at the Tualatin Country Club.

Proceeds will provide free and low-cost services to senior citizens in need.

“Not available anywhere else, the council's programs promote independence, improve quality of life and prevent or end abuse, neglect (including self-neglect) and exploitation of at-risk seniors and adults with disabilities,” said Tom Unger, who serves on the council’s board of directors, in a news release.

Social Services of Clackamas County also recognized Christina Bird, executive director of the Senior Citizens Council, with the John Mullin Distinguished Career Award at the benefit.

Bird, who lives in Estacada, has been employed with the agency since 1987. She was honored for her “work in the development of social policy, client advocacy and her commitment to social justice and equality.”

Senior Citizens Council of Clackamas County presents Citizen for Seniors Award to Teresa Kaady

Teresa Kaady (center) chats with Senior Citizens Council of Clackamas County Executive Director Christi Bird and board chair Jack Lundeen at the nonprofit’s annual dinner auction at Oregon Golf Club in West Linn on June 9. The event raised more than $21,500, the most ever, to support the council's services. Kaady, administrator at Rose Linn Vintage Place in West Linn, received the group's Citizen for Seniors Award. Close to 160 people attended. Sponsored by Hillside Chapel of Oregon City, the event featured a benefit performance by comedian Dave Anderson, co-host of both the “Mark and Dave Show” on 1190 KEX Radio in Portland and “AM Northwest” on KATU-TV Channel 2. Bird served on the event’s organizing committee with Darcey Bone, Dale Evans and Tom Unger. The Senior Citizens Council provides services for home-bound, frail and geographically isolated individuals to promote independence, improve quality of life, and prevent or end abuse, neglect and exploitation.
